High strength geotextile are used widely as reinforcement element for the construction of embankment over soft soil. The primary function of the geotextile is reinforcement, where it intercepts the slip circles as it develops and provides shear resistance at the initial movements of the embankment. The secondary function of the high strength geotextile is as drainage layer which allows construction of embankment at locations with high water pressure. The high pore pressure generated at the centre of the embankment can migrate sideways into the marginal zones where shear stresses are high. The geotextile also provides separation function which saves the amount of fill material for the construction of the embankment. The following properties of the High Strength Geotextile are essential for this application:
• Flexible for easy installation
• High short term stress strain characteristic
• Low creep with high LTDS
• High pullout resistance
• Good permeability for drainage
• Optimum opening size for separation
