Reno Mattress is a structure made of hexagonal double-twisted steel woven wire mesh. Reno Mattresses are filled with stones at the project site to form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures such as river bank protection and channel linings for erosion control.
Reno Mattresses are divided into uniformly partitioned cells by internal diaphragms placed each meter to create a multi celled unit.
The mesh used in Reno Mattress fabrication is of heavily galvanized wire conforming to BS443 Standards and coated with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The PVC is added to the galvanized wire to provide protection against long term corrosion.
Reno Mattress protections are able to develop and integrate with the surrounding environment, permitting the preservation or restoration of nature. The filtering capability of the rock fill allows the soil, water, air and plant life to interact naturally.
The characteristics of Reno Mattress permit the construction of shoreline protections, spillways, etc. to be performed under water. Due to the unit construction of the Reno mattresses and gabions, they are quite commonly used for bank protection and weir applications.
